Edgar A. Bras


Edgar A. Bras was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Bras received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Spanish Fort in Alabama onApril 1865. He was honored with the award onJune 1865.

Bras was born onOctober 1841 in Jefferson County, Iowa. He enlisted at Louisa County, Iowa into the 8th Iowa Infantry. OnApril 1865, during the Battle of Spanish Fort, one of the efforts by Union forces to capture the forts protecting the city of Mobile, Alabama, Bras charged through the Confederate camp, capturing a flag from a colorbearer. It is for this act of bravery that he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
